Strengthening Cooperation between Europe and India: New Initiatives for a Sustainable Future

Rafforzare la Cooperazione tra Europa e India: Nuove Iniziative per un Futuro Sostenibile

**Strengthening Ties Between Europe and India: New Initiatives and Projects**

On February 27 and 28, 2025, a significant visit took place in India, during which important strategies to strengthen the relations between the European Union and India were discussed. In this context, several key priorities emerged that will guide future cooperation.

One of the high expectations is the implementation of a Free Trade Agreement by the end of the year, a fundamental step to facilitate trade between the two entities. This agreement promises to break down trade barriers and foster a smoother exchange of goods and services, thus supporting the economies of both regions.

Moreover, discussions took place about advancing digital technology through the acceleration of artificial intelligence, 6G networks, and digital public infrastructures. These developments are considered crucial not only for improving the efficiency of public services but also for stimulating innovation and competitiveness in global markets.

Another central element of the agreement concerns joint investments in green projects. Among these, initiatives to address the issue of marine plastic, projects to convert waste into renewable hydrogen, and programs for recycling electric vehicle batteries stand out. These initiatives are a response to growing environmental concerns and demonstrate the mutual commitment to tackling climate challenges.

One project aligned with these priorities is SESEI, established in 2013 to promote cooperation between Europe and India in the field of standardization and related policies. SESEI’s main objectives include enhancing the visibility of European standardization activities, promoting cooperation between Indian and European standardization bodies, and providing support for European companies facing standardization-related obstacles that can complicate access to the Indian market.

With its rapidly growing economy, India represents a crucial trading and investment partner for Europe. SESEI acts as a bridge between the two areas, contributing to a constructive dialogue and effective synergy between European and Indian standardization sectors.

Currently, SESEI is in its sixth phase, launched in August 2024, and will continue its activities for the next three years. This cycle of activities aims to further deepen cooperation between Europe and India in the field of standardization, a fundamental aspect to ensure sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

The initiatives described not only emphasize the need for ever-closer cooperation between Europe and India but also highlight the importance of innovative approaches to address contemporary challenges. Creating common ground through standardization and the development of sustainable technologies are necessary steps toward a more prosperous future.
